The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has been installing wildlife crossings underneath roadways. The crossings are a safety measure to keep animals out of the roadway and give them easier access to move from one side of the county to the other. There are about 35 wildlife crossings in Collier County with video cameras capturing a close look inside. FDOT plans to include two new crossings on SR 82 and one on SR 29 while these roads are being reconstructed.
FDOT also installs fencing along roadways to channel wildlife to the crossings. Repairs to fencing damaged by Irma are expected to be completed by the end of the summer. Click here NBC2 Wildlife Crossing News Spot to view a news spot done by NBC2.
